Before the distribution begins, the player, or players sitting in the first and second positions after the dealer (indicated by the special button BUTTON), make mandatory bets in the dark blinds. Then, each of the players receives two cards face down. Next opens the first round of bidding.
After all the participants of the deal have decided by equalizing the bets or by throwing cards in the pass, three cards are dealt face up on the table, called the flop. These are community cards for all players.
The second round of betting begins with the player sitting after the button, at the end of the round of betting, when everyone has called or went into the pass, the next community card, the turn, opens. Again the bidding round, the fifth, the last open card, the river, the last bidding round and the showdown. Five community cards on the table are called a “board” (BOARD).
An autopsy is the process of determining the winner in a hand. All players who have equalized bets in the final round of betting must show their closed cards to determine the winning combination. Moreover, the combination consists strictly of five cards, it can be two player cards and any three cards from the board, one player card and four from the table, or even five cards from the table, excluding player cards.
The highest poker hand wins the pot, after which the button moves to the next clockwise position, the players place the blinds and the next hand begins.
Omaha Poker (Omaha)
Omaha poker is rich in game combinations and is liked by advanced poker players and professionals.
The rules for playing Omaha are identical to the rules for playing Texas Hold’em, with the exception of two points:
During the initial deal, players receive four cards face down,
When forming a combination, a player must use strictly two of his hole cards and three board cards.
The rest: the course of the game, bidding, determining the winner, absolutely coincides with Texas Hold’em.
Tournaments and Poker Championships
As mentioned above, club poker is a skill game that has recognized elements of sports intellectual competition. Therefore, tournaments, and sometimes local and world-class poker championships, are extremely popular around the world. The most famous championship has been held in Las Vegas since 1970 and is called the World Series of Poker (WSOP). Poker and tournaments boomed in 2003, when an unknown player, Christopher Bryan Moneymaker, won the WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas. Moneymaker gave people a dream by showing how to win $ 2.5 million with just $ 40 with luck and tactics. The game was played in Texas Hold’em.
Now various Series and Championships are held in all major countries where poker is legal. Also on the Internet you can participate in large and massive championships. Many players love poker because it can be played in a relaxed atmosphere at home with friends. It happens that much more money is played in “home games” than in casino tournaments.
The best players who win first place in the Championships are forever included in the poker community’s fame lists and are authorities for other people. Books are written about them and films are made.
Casino poker has almost nothing to do with club poker. The main difference is that the gambling establishment itself always acts as an opponent to all players. At the same time, the representative of the casino, the dealer, always acts according to a previously known strategy and it is impossible to get him out of the bank or bluff.
The first mention of poker in the casino also appeared in the USA, where it was called STUD POKER. Sometimes the classic version of such poker can also be found under the names OASIS STUD POKER or CARRIBIAN STUD POKER. The rules of poker studs are simple:
All game participants make an initial ANTE bet. Further, each player and the dealer receive five cards in the dark. Only the croupier puts his last fifth card open to all players for viewing. After that, the players take cards in their hands and look at them, look for poker combinations (indicated in the table above). Players decide whether to continue to play, or to discard cards, giving up on the continuation of the game. If the player does not give up, then he must put the cards in front of him and put another mandatory BET bet equal to two ANTE. When all the players have decided, the dealer opens his cards and the cards of the players, comparing the combinations: he takes the losing hands and pays the winning ones. The ANTE bet is always paid 1 to 1, and the BET bet according to the following payout table:
Ace King. Payment 1 to 1.
Couple. Payment 1 to 1.
Two pairs. Payment 2 to 1.
Triple. Payment 3 to 1.
Straight. Payment 4 to 1.
Flash. Payment 5 to 1.
Fullhouse. Payment 7 to 1.
Four of a kind. Payment 20 to 1.
Straight flush. Payment 50 to 1.
Royal flush. Payment 100 to 1.
There is no joker in stud poker, therefore there is no poker combination.
In this kind of game, there is also such a thing as “minimum dealer play”. That is, if the croupier pays bets on BET only if he has at least a combination of Ace-King or higher. Otherwise, no matter how good a player’s card is, he won’t receive the corresponding winnings.
After the dealer paid all the wins and took the losing bets, he shuffles the deck again and the game cycle repeats.
On the basis of stud poker casinos around the world have come up with dozens and hundreds of their own variations of the game. Often they had names in honor of the casinos themselves. For example, Imperial Poker or Royal STUD Poker. Gambling houses on the territory of the former Soviet Union were particularly successful in this. As a rule, the classic rules added the possibility of a player exchanging one of his cards for a new one from the deck for a bet equal to ANTE. Some casinos made it possible not to exchange, but to buy another, sixth card, or exchange two, three, or even all five cards of a player. Also introduced concepts such as “insurance” against the dealer’s lack of play, “purchase of the game” (when the dealer changes one of his cards, on which there is no combination, to a new one from the deck), as well as various other additions. All of them made the game of poker more exciting. And it was on this basis in Russia in Moscow that the Russian Poker game was born, which was widely used in Eastern Europe. In this game, all of the above additions are present, and there is the possibility of increased payment for “double” combinations. For example, if a player bought a sixth card and has 2,3,4,5,6,7 in his hands, then these are two straight combinations:
1st – from two to six;
2nd – from three to seven.
Accordingly, both of these combinations will be paid.
In addition to Russian poker, the Casino Texas Holdem game, which was invented by Stephen Au-Young in 2001, gained great popularity. Here, by analogy with club poker, players receive only 2 cards per hand. And the rest are laid out on the board common to all participants. But here players make their bets ANTE and BET like other varieties of the game against the casino. The minimum dealer game at Casino Texas Holdem is two fours. If the dealer has a game, then he pays the bet on BET always 1 to 1, and on ANTE according to the following pay table:
Street and below – 1 to 1
Flash – 2 to 1
Fullhouse – 3 to 1
Four of a kind – 10 to 1
Street Flash – 20 to 1
Royal Flush – 100 to 1
Moreover, even if the dealer does not have a game, ANTE bets will still be paid. This attracts those players to the game Casino Texas Holdem who like their premium combinations to always be paid.
Another popular casino game around the world is Three Card Poker. All players and croupiers receive only three cards and must make combinations based on classic poker combinations, only on three cards. The croupier does not open any of his cards; all of them are dealt in the dark. And the dealer’s minimum combination for the game is Queen and above. If the dealer has no game, then the ANTE bet is paid in double size (there is no BET bet in three-card poker). If the dealer has a game, then all winnings are paid in accordance with the following payout table:
Lady and above: 2 to 1
Flash: 2 to 1
Street: 3 to 1
Triple: 5 to 1
Straight Flush: 6 to 1
Also in three-card poker there is an additional PAIRPLUS bet, which will be paid to players in any case in accordance with the following payout table:
Pair: 1 to 1
Flash: 4 to 1
Street: 5 to 1
Triple: 20 to 1
Straight flush: 40 to 1
The PAIRPLUS bet loses if the player’s cards do not have at least a pair of deuces. It doesn’t matter if the dealer has a game.
Three-card poker is one of the simplest and most dynamic types of poker. Many players begin their acquaintance with the casino precisely with three-card poker.
As mentioned above, in the casino there are many different variations of poker. The best solution to start the game is to clarify the rules in a particular institution. Including in online casinos that publish the rules of their games and sometimes even the percentage of payments on them. There are varieties of casino poker that even give a mathematical advantage to players who play according to the correct strategy. These games are not only interesting and exciting, but can also bring financial benefits to someone who can unravel all the subtleties and nuances of poker.
With the development of electronic games at the end of the twentieth century, developers did not stand aside from poker, which was gaining popularity at that time. What caused the birth of another variety of the game – video poker. This game can only be played on a slot machine (or in an online casino), but not at a real casino table. Video poker is different in that here the player is not fighting for a win, neither with the gambling house, nor with other players. In fact, it all depends on what combination comes on his cards. It will be paid depending on the payout table on video poker in any case.
There are several different types of video poker. The most popular of them is Jack or Better, where a player’s combination is considered winning if he has a pair of jacks or more on five cards. In this case, the player can make an exchange from one to five (all) of his cards to collect his combination.
In video poker, as in any other slot machine, the percentage of return is originally laid down – the mathematical advantage of a gambling house. However, in some games it is extremely small, and sometimes it can even exceed 100%. Due to this, there are even special strategies for video poker – how a player should change cards depending on his combination.
Video poker is most widespread in the USA, where this game originated.
Poker on the internet
On the Internet there are currently emulators of all known types of poker. Players can place bets in real casinos by seeing their cards on a computer or smartphone monitor; can play Texas poker and Omaha poker with people from all over the world; Online casinos offer a variety of video poker options and other varieties of this unusually interesting game. Poker on the Internet is practically no different from games in real casinos.
What kind of poker to choose
Novice poker players often face the choice of which poker discipline to shine on. In the search, they change one type of poker to another, as a result, instead of focusing on a specific direction, they waste their skills. All types of poker currently available to players can be schematically divided into two types: tournament and cash games. In cash poker, you can add chips to the stack at any time; in tournament games, after losing a stack, the game process also stops.
Beginners are better off focusing on unlimited cash games. The advantage of the direction is the possibility of arbitrary bets and bluffs significantly increase the probability of winning, even for beginners.
How to play to win
Winning poker is often random, a winning combination is often preceded by a correctly selected game strategy, mathematical calculations of a winning combination, bluffing and other factors.
